WELCOME TO RANDONNEUR CYCLING IN NORTHERN ARIZONA!
Randonneuring is distance cycling that covers scenic and interesting terrain and roads. Friendly camaraderie, not competition, is the hallmark of randonneuring. This style of riding is non-competitive in nature, and self-sufficiency is paramount. When riders participate in randonneuring events, they are part of a long tradition that goes back to the beginning of the sport of cycling in France and Italy. Northern Arizona history includes adventurous cycling as far back as the late 1800s.
Part of a worldwide community of riders and routes, the non-commercial, all-volunteer, not-for-profit Northern Arizona
Randonneurs was sanctioned by Randonneurs USA(RUSA) as a new region in 2015. Our region offers a great deal of variety, from the lowland desert of the Mohave to the ponderosa forests of the Coconino and Kaibab Plateaus to the alpine tundra of the White Mountains. Our ranks include a diversity of riders and volunteers who enjoy adventure and geographic and personal discovery on two wheels.
Our rides try to highlight the various scenic or historic roads found throughout our region. Routes can vary from 100km (63 mi) up to 1200k (750 mi) over the paved roads and wide network of dirt forest or ranch roads either in a scheduled group “brevet” or less formal “permanent” ride that can be ridden by riders on their own schedule.
We are non-commercial, all-volunteer driven, and you don’t have to be a member of RUSA to join in on the scheduled rides. If you are interested in riding options or meeting other riders, come join us. Discover the cycling style of randonneuring, experience the unique Northern Arizona geography, and help keep the tradition alive.
RUSA is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization established in 1998 whose primary goals are to promote randonneuring in the USA and to serve the USA’s randonneuring community. RUSA is sanctioned by the Audax Club Parisien and affiliated with theRandonneurs Mondiaux. Likewise, Northern Arizona Randonneurs is a non-commercial, all-volunteer, not-for-profit group dedicated to offering randonneuring opportunities to all cyclists.
