Illinois Cross State Record Attempt Announcement
I’m all set for my third cross state record, which will be made possible by the awesome people who have volunteered to give up their weekend to support or officiate my ride! The distance is a little longer than my previous two cross state records but the goal is the same: finish in less than 24 hours. Here’s to hoping for tailwinds!
Record Attempt: Illinois South to North
Date: Saturday July 16 (can start anytime July 15, 16, 17)
Distance: 433 miles
Elevation gain: 10,476 feet
Goal time: 24 hours
Goal pace: 18 mph
Start Point: Cairo, IL
End Point: Warren, IL
UMCA Officials: Chris Welch, Mark Herte
Current Record: This record has yet to be attempted by a woman. The men’s record is 19 hours and 54 minutes set by Kevin Zelenka in 1989.
